There are two distinct yet interconnected visual motifs
represented in the is series. The predominant motif is a continuation of the sheep
series. As seen here, these paintings have taken on a decidedly different character,
veering away from the pastoral towards a more ominous tone which is manifested
in the violent landscape as well as the animals themselves which have evolved
into a goat figure. Although I chose to work with this imagery for purely
personal reasons, and by no means consider my art work topical, current events
have conspired to confirm and perpetuate the fear that is the inherent emotion
in this body of work. In contrast, the "New Grass" series is
optimistic in nature. These are self portraits of my feet, an under appreciated
part of the body in my opinion. My concern with this work is focused on the ideal
rather than with emotional and psychological accuracy. I see these paintings as
"sign posts" pointing the way towards higher aspirations. |
